ABOUT ME

Portfolio Image.png

Hello and welcome!

I'm probably best known as the 'artistic and imaginative' one amongst my family and friends; I've always found it incredibly satisfying to see an idea come to life!

Art has always felt like one of my biggest passions; a joyous expression of and for my soul.

In 2014, I graduated with a 2:1 BA Hons Degree in Textiles at Loughborough University and achieved a year's experience interning for Philip Treacy, Matthew Williamson and Phillipa Lepley. I've since gained a 12-year specialism in embroidery and embellishment; working for prestigious Fashion Design Houses and studios in London and across Europe, such as Temperley, Pucci, Dior and Valentino. I created artwork placements and layouts (digitally and manually) and liaised with clients to project manage their concepts and briefs through to final delivery.

Between 2014 and 2017 I worked in Italy for an established embroidery and Fashion design studio called JATO, where we produced exquisite pieces for high-end couture labels. I also travelled to India to visit our supplier's factories and supervise projects. There I gained first-hand exposure to the beautiful craftsmanship and artistry of hand-made embroideries; witnessing the level of care, dedication and skill required to turn 2D technical sketches into 3D intricately surfaced garments, accessories, footwear and bridalwear.

My embroidered designs have been modelled by icons such as Cara Delevigne and Arizona Muse and have been sold in showrooms and stores across the globe. My work was also featured in magazines such as Vogue and Harpers Bazaar, and seasonal Fashion Week runway shows. I also worked on one-off statement pieces for celebrities like Adele and Beyonce for special events such as the Oscars and MTV Awards.

My creative journey was involuntarily placed on hold during the Covid-19 Pandemic (being one of many across the UK to go through redundancy and dismally wave goodbye to a job I loved and cherished).  During the ever-changing unprecedented times of 2020 - 2021, I explored temporary Administrative roles within the Civil Service; contributing positively to the livelihoods of the public by enhancing success rates of employability and delivering quality customer support. Helping others rediscover their goals and aspirations kept me inspired, and in April 2022 I began a new embroidery design role for an American Luxury Sportwear company called Peter Millar (and G/FORE), specialising in machine embroidery and logo designs for Golf Clubs and Championships such as The Open and The Ryder Cup.

A few years prior I started an online personalised Arts & Crafts service via my @embellish.me.uk page; my most popular request being the preserved flower frames (mostly wedding bouquets). During lockdown, I indulged in a lot of baking and discovered a new found love for what I like to call my "embroidery on cake canvases". My latest endeavour via my @roandmarys page holds a special place in my heart as it all began as a small venture  with my mum after we were both made redundant. Spending lots of quality time together in the kitchen we began to express our passion for creating beautiful things;  we combined her love for baking and my love for decorating and embellishing, (along with many Youtube 'how-to' videos) and formed an organic clientele for our personalised home-baked goods. I've loved the freedom to explore this edible medium and challenge myself with new design concepts, as well as self-taught skills like designing a logo and business cards, photographing with a professional Nikon camera, and implementing digital marketing strategies on social media platforms for marketing and advertisement.

My career journey within recent years has led me to really believe in the power of the creative mind and spirit; in not only how it allows us to find a way in the most challenging of times, but also in how it teaches us what we are capable of if we just allow the ideas to flow and give things a go. I love how it promotes us to think outside the box so that greater things can flourish from what is initially perceived as difficult or even impossible.

I am constantly striving for new adventures and opportunities for growth; so if you're an employer, a customer or a fellow creative and you'd like to collaborate, please get in touch.

I would love to hear from you!

Thank you for visiting and reading up this point.

Best wishes and speak soon,

Romina
